WRLC is seeking a Facilities Manager to oversee the maintenance, upkeep, and functionality of WRLC’s building, grounds, and infrastructure to ensure a safe and efficient work environment. The manager is responsible for coordinating maintenance and repairs, managing external vendors and contracts, and aligning expenses with the budget framework. WRLC’s facility contains office workspace and a high-density facility with a controlled environment housing 3.7 million library items.
The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal communication and project management skills. They will be self-motivated and show the ability to be strategic and creative thinkers, along with the ability to learn. This position requires a high degree of interaction with WRLC staff and vendors. Candidates will need to have prior experience in facilities management and operations.

The manager is responsible for coordinating maintenance and repairs, managing budgets, external vendors and contracts. This position reports to the Director of Finance and Administration. Responsible for a facility that contains office workspace and a high-density facility with a controlled environment housing 3.7 million library items.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Primary organizational contact for the maintenance and repair of building management systems and contracted services for facilities management and additional building infrastructure (roofing, plumbing, etc)
- Administer the control of security key cards and security cameras and coordinate the regular inspection of the life safety systems.
- Manage contracts with vendors. Maintain logs of the generator tests, fire pump test, UPS load, and visits by WRLC facilities management contractors.
- Ensure the facility meets all safety standards and regulations including: fire safety, accessibility, and other relevant codes.
- Monitor the WRLC Help desk system for relevant requests for assistance
- Coordinate communication and response for emergency/after-hour facilities emergencies
- In collaboration with the Director of Finance, develop and manage budgets for facility operations and facility-related projects, such as renovations or new equipment.
- Promote quality customer service, workplace safety, and a productive work environment.
- Engage with all WRLC staff to identify facility issues and workplace needs.
Required
- High School diploma or GED.
- Five (5) years of work experience in a building maintenance environment – OR – a completed vocational or apprenticeship program.
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to adjust to periods of increased workflow and varying responsibilities/hours as project demands arise.
- Proficiency with web-based building management interfaces
Preferred
- Associate’s degree in a job-related field
- Experience with help-desk and customer support software
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to occasionally sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Must be able to occasionally work near moving mechanical parts and in outdoor weather conditions.

The Washington Research Library Consortium (WRLC) was established as a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization in 1987 to support and enhance the library and information services of nine partner universities in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. We accomplish our mission by expanding and coordinating services between research libraries and staff. The WRLC staff work from a facility located between Upper Marlboro and Bowie, MD.

Compensation:
- Salary range: $80,000 - $90,000

- This is a fulltime hybrid position with 4 days per week required in office
- 35 hour work week
