Access Services Qatar Specialist

Summary

The Access Services Qatar Support Specialist, based at the Georgetown University Library in Washington, DC, supports the teaching, learning, and research of faculty, students, and staff at the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service (SFS-Q) campus in Doha, Qatar. This position's work schedule is 8 am to Noon, Monday-Friday, in the Access Services Department of Georgetown University Library.

This position is responsible for fulfilling Qatar users' requests for books, media, book chapters and articles and expediting delivery of these items. Other duties include Circulation/Reserves Desk and Stacks Services support. This position works closely with SFS-Q Library staff and participates in supporting the operations of the Access Services Department of Georgetown University Library to the mutual benefit of both libraries. Works on special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma required
  • 1 year library experience, preferably in an academic setting
  • Demonstrated familiarity with the role of academic libraries meeting the information needs of students, faculty, and staff
  • Searching bibliographic databases and integrated library systems desired
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Strong public service orientation
  • Computer literate; familiar with Windows desktop, word processing, Excel, and e-mail software required
  • Familiarity with reformatting technologies (Adobe Capture, Adobe Acrobat)

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Ability to adjust to periods of increased workflow and to work as part of a team in a complex, changing environment
  • Ability to be diplomatic and negotiate disputes; supervisory experience desirable.
